Let’s face it it – a carpet cleaning service can be on the lowest list of priorities for most home owners or renters. Whether it be the fact of financial pressures or the only time you think about a carpet clean is when you have a spillage – I can outline a few quick reasons why carpet cleaning is a necessity.
Some people don’t consider professional carpet cleaning to be a priority – they see it as a luxury. The truth is that it is actually a necessity. Keeping your carpets clean isn’t just for the sake of appearance, but also for keeping your family healthy and safe.
The World Health Organization says that dirty carpets have long been associated with a list of associated health problems.
- Mould: If there’s one thing you should be concerned for in dirty carpet, is possible mould. Mould spores are emitted into the air that can cause allergic reactions in people & pets. The effects on the people are varied, but in some cases, mould can cause serious, even illnesses and have been proven to be fatal. It can grow on the underside of a carpet, an area only professional carpet cleaning service can tackle.
- Asthma: Academic Studies have confirmed dirty or damp carpets in the home or office can trigger asthma attacks, as well as allergic reactions and other respiratory-related conditions.
- Pet Dander: This is the name for body oils, skin and hair naturally shed by pets. The particles get trapped in carpet, and like mould, they can cause a list of reactions.
- Dust Mites: These microscopic insects thrive in dirty carpets because that’s where they find an abundant supply of food. When they die, their bodies can be inhaled by humans. A person who is allergic to dust mites can experience chronic symptoms of flu.
It is especially important to have your carpets cleaned when you move out or into a rental home or a home you have purchased as you honestly do not know the history of the home. Did they have pets? Was the home smoke free or not – most likely a home that is older than 10-15yrs has a high likelihood that it has had a smoker living within the home. Do you have little children that will be crawling on the carpet? Do you allow shoes to be worn inside the home that have been picking up all the germs on the city sidewalk?
I recently just removed my carpet from my 2 bedroom home only to find urine and mould on the underside of the carpet and did find out previous tenants had pets yet the top of the carpet did show slight staining but nothing like on the underside. My home was built in 1944 but carpet was laid in 1995 and the previous owner could not remember the last time they had it cleaned over an 8yr period of ownership. The mould came from a window leak – aluminium windows had been installed so the mould was 3yrs old but mould is mould.
For peace of mind you are far better to have the carpet cleaned by a professional – our carpet cleaning service includes a pre-stain treatment and deodorising. We offer a 7 day service.
Carpet cleaning should ideally be cleaned every 6mths but it is recommended at 12mths but no more than 2yrs.
