Deep Cleaning in Auckland: One-Off and Spring Cleans

A deep clean gets to everything a regular clean skips: the grease on the rangehood filters, the limescale on the shower glass, the dust along the skirting boards and the inside of the cupboards. It's usually a one-off job, booked when a house needs resetting rather than maintaining.

What is a deep clean, and how is it different from a regular clean?

A regular clean keeps a house tidy week to week: surfaces wiped, floors vacuumed and mopped, bathrooms and kitchen cleaned where you can see them. A deep clean removes the build-up underneath. It covers the inside of appliances and cupboards, descaling and grout, edges and corners, and the detail areas that get skipped for months. It takes longer and is usually done once, then kept up with regular cleans.

Area Regular clean Deep clean
Kitchen Benches, stovetop and sink wiped Oven and rangehood degreased, inside cupboards, splashback detailed
Bathroom Toilet, basin, shower and floor cleaned Limescale and soap scum removed, grout scrubbed, surface mould treated
Floors Vacuum and mop Edges, corners and under movable furniture
Detail areas Usually skipped Skirting boards, doors, light switches, interior windows

What's included in a deep clean, room by room

A deep clean works through the whole house, top to bottom. Kitchens are degreased, including the oven and rangehood. Bathrooms are descaled and the grout scrubbed. Every room gets its skirting boards, doors, switches and interior windows detailed, and cupboards are cleaned inside as well as out. We confirm the scope when we quote.

Kitchen

We degrease the oven interior, racks and door glass, the rangehood and its filters, the stovetop and the splashback. Cupboards and drawers are wiped inside and out, along with handles, appliance fronts and the tops of high cabinets.

Bathrooms and toilets

Bathrooms need descaling, not just wiping. Limescale and soap scum come off the shower glass, taps and tiles, and the grout is scrubbed. Toilets are cleaned around the base, hinges and behind the pan, and mirrors, vanities and extractor fan covers are done too.

Bedrooms, living areas and detail work

We dust from high to low, from light fittings and wardrobe tops down to skirting boards, and vacuum along edges and under beds. Healthify NZ explains that dust mites favour warm, moist places like mattresses, bedding and carpet, so hot-wash your bedding the same week. Interior windows are cleaned with their sills and tracks. Outside glass is a job for our window cleaning team.

Mould on surfaces

We clean surface mould from bathroom ceilings, window frames, sills and sealant. Cleaning removes the mould you can see. It doesn’t fix the reason it grew. Black staining that has grown into old silicone often won’t come out, and that sealant may need replacing.

Health New Zealand’s healthy homes advice links condensation in damp homes to indoor mould, and recommends airing the house, using extractor fans in the kitchen and bathroom, and wiping condensation off windows. If mould keeps returning, the moisture source needs fixing, and Health NZ advises a professional mould removal specialist for large areas. Renting? Tenancy Services’ mould guidance says to talk to your landlord if mould persists.

Carpets and upholstery

A deep clean vacuums carpets and soft furnishings, but it doesn’t wash them. For stains and odours, book carpet cleaning on the same visit, and add upholstery cleaning for couches and chairs.

When should you book a deep clean?

Book a deep clean when the house needs a reset rather than a tidy. The most common times are spring cleaning season, before a regular cleaning service starts, before selling or open homes, before moving into a new place while it’s empty, and after a stretch when cleaning slipped: a new baby, illness in the house or a busy season at work.

Moving out of a rental is a different job. Tenancy Services says the property needs to be reasonably clean and tidy when you leave, and the property manager inspects against that standard. Our end of tenancy cleaning is built around that inspection.

How long does a deep clean take?

Most deep cleans take a full day. Our house cleans range from quick 1 to 4 hour visits to comprehensive deep cleans of 6 to 8 hours. The time depends on the size of the house, how long since its last thorough clean, the state of the oven and bathrooms, and how many cleaners are on the job. Your quote includes a time estimate.

How much does a deep clean cost in Auckland?

Published figures put a one-off deep clean in Auckland at roughly $200–$500. Small apartments sit at the low end, and large homes or heavy build-up in the kitchen and bathrooms push it to the top or beyond. Independent cleaners on marketplace sites list hourly rates of about $25–$55, while cleaning companies more often quote a fixed price for the job.

The price moves with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, how long since the last thorough clean, how much grease and limescale there is, and extras such as carpets or outside windows. These are typical NZ market ranges, not Busy Bees’ prices. For a fixed quote, get a free quote.

Deep cleaning for offices and workplaces

We deep clean offices too. Workplaces usually book one over the Christmas shutdown or a quiet week, before moving into new premises, or before an important visit. The scope matches a home deep clean, scaled to the space. We quote it on the size and state of the space, and we confirm the scope when we quote.

How to get your home ready for a deep clean

You don’t need to clean before the cleaners arrive, but a little preparation means more time goes on the deep clean itself. Clear clutter from benches and floors, empty the oven and any cupboards you want cleaned inside, and put away valuables. When you book, tell us about stubborn spots, natural stone or other delicate surfaces, pets, parking and access.

Keeping it clean after a deep clean

A deep clean resets the house, and a regular clean keeps it that way, whether that’s weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Book a regular house cleaning service to start after your deep clean, so the build-up doesn’t return, and plan another deep clean once or twice a year.

Frequently asked questions

What is typically included in a deep clean?

A deep clean covers everything in a regular clean plus the build-up underneath: degreasing the oven and rangehood, cleaning inside cupboards, descaling showers and taps, scrubbing grout, treating surface mould, and detailing skirting boards, doors, light switches and interior windows. Carpet and upholstery washing are separate services you can add on the same day.

How much does a deep clean cost?

Published figures for Auckland put a one-off deep clean at roughly $200 to $500, depending on the size of the home and its condition. Small apartments sit at the lower end, while large homes or homes with heavy grease and limescale can cost more. For a fixed price on your home, ask Busy Bees for a free quote.

How long does a deep clean take?

Most deep cleans take a full day. Busy Bees’ comprehensive deep cleans run about 6 to 8 hours, compared with 1 to 4 hours for a regular clean. The time depends on the size of the house, how long since its last thorough clean, the state of the oven and bathrooms, and how many cleaners are working.

Is it worth paying for a deep clean?

It’s worth it when the build-up has got ahead of you, or when you need the house at its best for a sale, a move or a fresh start with a regular cleaner. If your home is already cleaned thoroughly and often, a yearly deep clean may be enough.

How often should you deep clean a house?

For most homes, a deep clean once or twice a year is enough when regular cleaning happens in between. Homes with pets, young children or several people sharing may need one more often, especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. Weekly or fortnightly cleaning between deep cleans stops grease, limescale and dust from building up again.

Do I need to be home for a deep clean?

No, you don’t have to be home for the clean. We arrange access, keys and anything we need on site when you book. If you can be there at the start, it helps to point out problem areas, delicate surfaces or anything you’d like left alone. Tell us about pets when you book too.
